Obituary of Raymond R. Dolan

Please share a memory of Raymond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Raymond Richard Dolan entered into God’s care Friday, September 20 with his loving family by his side.

He was born February 11, 1925, in NYC, where he attended LaSalle High School prior to proudly serving in the United States Navy during WWII as an Aviation Radioman and Gunner.  Upon completion of his war time service, Raymond graduated from Fordham University in NYC with a degree in Psychology.

In 1950 Raymond married his long-time friend and love, Florence, moved to Staten Island and joined the New York City Fire Department where he was employed as a firefighter for over thirty-three years prior to his retirement as a Captain.  During their 50 years on Staten Island Raymond and Florence raised 4 children (Dennis, Ken, Deb and Ray), and built a warm and welcoming home which housed a flurry of school activities, sports, barbeques, great candy and always a bevy of friends.

In their retirement years Raymond and Florence moved to NJ to be closer to their children and grandchildren; built many treasured friendships in their new retirement community; enjoyed travel both in the US and abroad, but most importantly enjoyed seeing their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow into the loving, caring, accomplished people they have become.

Raymond is pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Sinnott) Dolan, brother, Joseph Dolan Jr., and his son, Dennis Dolan.  He is survived by his loving wife, Florence (Hitlin) Dolan; his children, Kenneth Dolan and wife Bonnie, Raymond Dolan and wife Linda, Deborah Fortuna and husband Anthony, daughter-in-law, Deborah Dolan, and brother Gerard and wife Colleen.  Raymond was also blessed with ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
