Obituary of Palma Sciarrotta

Please share a memory of Palma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our loving Mother, Palma Sciarrotta, age 90, peacefully passed away at her daughter’s home on Monday, June 15, 2020 with her children, Nicky and Marie at her side. She was a devoted, kind, sweet wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who always dressed beautifully. Born in Trenton, NJ, she moved to Casteltermini, Sicily as a baby, returning to the United States at the age of 20. When people heard our Mom’s accent they would ask, “What part of Italy were you born?” She would reply, “Trenton, N.J.” A talented seamstress and tailor, she worked at many area clothing stores including Maury Robinson’s and Jack’s Custom Shop. Mom was an amazing cook and flower arranger. She loved to travel and ballroom dance with our Dad. A performance in Sound of Music was the highlight of their “dancing career”. She was also a member of San Calogero Society of Saint James Church, Red Hats and Saint Gregory Seniors Predeceased by her parents, Alphonso and Vincenzina (Jennie) Micele Alessi and beloved husband, Joseph, Mom is survived by her children Nicholas and Jo-Ann Sciarrotta of Chesterfield and Marie and Kevin Goodwin of Springfield, grandsons Christopher Sciarrotta, Luke, Matthew and Zachary Goodwin, brothers and sisters-in-law, Giacomo (Jack) and Giovanna (Jennie) Alessi and Joseph and Catherine Alessi, sisters-in-law, Josephine Bagley and Stella Taylor and husband William, many nieces, nephews, extended family in Sicily and her special and loving caregiver, Rusudan Azariashvili. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to all those who have supported our family during our Mother’s illness and passing. We inherited a profound appreciation for family and friends from our Mom and Dad and are grateful for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Friday, June 19, 2020 at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 29 E. Paul Ave, Trenton, NJ 08638, preceded by visitation from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the church. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum in Hamilton. Arrangements have been entrusted to D’Errico Funeral Chapel, 30 Yardville Allentown Road, Hamilton, NJ. During this difficult time, we invite family and friends to express condolences or other words of comfort on our website at www.derricofuneralhome.com
