Anthony “Tony” T. Recine Jr. MANAHAWKIN – Tony Recine passed into eternity peacefully in the presence of his loving wife of 52 years, Dina, during the mid-afternoon of Saturday, May 20 at the Southern Ocean Medical Center. Born on June 28, 1932, he was a month shy of reaching his 91st birthday. The son of the late Anthony T. and Lena (Dileo) Recine, Sr. of Trenton, and brother of the late Thomas Recine, Lucy Cammisa, Leonard Recine and Donald Recine, he is survived by his wife Dina (Mastrangeli) Recine; son Domnick of New York, New York, son Anthony III, daughter-in-law Zeyda, and grandsons Anthony IV and Luke, all of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Gail Recine, Giuseppina and Luciano Priori and Paula and Joseph Fabrizi; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Trenton, Tony was a proud member of the 1948 American Legion National Champion Trenton Schroths Post 93 baseball team and a member of The Baron Athletic Association, where he enjoyed playing Bocce. He graduated from Trenton Central High School and Trenton State Teachers College in 1950 and 1960 respectively. Tony was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, having served honorably aboard the Ambrose Light Ship in New York Harbor and at Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War. An exceptional baseball player and avid student of the game, Tony was a player and coach for several local semi-pro baseball teams during the 1950’s and early 1960’s that included Lambertville, Jersey Shore Red Sox, and the Young Republicans. He was a second baseman for his varsity high school and college baseball squads, having been awarded the Trenton State College Player of the Year for the 1960 season. Later in life he was head baseball coach for the Trenton Central High School Tornados from 1977 to 1985, having been named the 1983 Mercer County High School Baseball Coach of the Year by The Trentonian. Tony was employed by the Trenton Board of Education as physical education teacher and driving instructor at Junior High School #2 and Trenton Central Highs School, having retired in 1992 after 30 years in the teaching profession. Following retirement, Tony and Dina left the Trenton area and moved permanently to their Jersey Shore summer home in Beach Haven West, Stafford Township, where they resided the last 20 years. Tony was a virtuous, very outgoing and energetic individual who cultivated many lifelong, treasured friendships, and was well liked and respected among the countless teammates, students, and colleagues who had the good fortune to be within his circle. He will be most remembered by those who loved him as the devoted patriarch selflessly dedicating his time, efforts and concerns to the well-being of his family and friends, who now mourn his departure from their lives in this world.
