Obituary of Charles Pontoriero

Charles Pontoriero, 86 of Trenton, entered into God's Loving Care Monday, August 25, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton. Born and raised in Trenton, he was a lifelong Chambersburg area resident. Mr. Pontoriero retired as a Captain from the City of Trenton Fire Department after 30 years of dedicated service, working in Engine No. 5 and Engine No. 7. He was also the proprietor of The Continental Cheese Company in Trenton and was known affectionately known as the "cheese man". He was an avid hunter, surf fisherman and enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe. For the past ten years, Charlie started his day the Hamilton YMCA followed by lunch with his brother and many friends. Predeceased by his parents Giacomo and Domenica (Gaetano) Pontoriero, his brothers, James, Anthony and Pasquale L. Pontoriero and his loving wife of 55 years, Marie E. (Van Der Decker) Pontoriero, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James & Kathleen Pontoriero; his grandchildren, Nicole Todd and husband Eric, Shawn and Justin; one brother and two sisters-in-law, George and Patricia Pontoriero and Catherine Pontoriero; his sister; Catherine Mineo; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated 8:00 pm Friday, August 29, at Chambers D'Errico and Correnti Funeral Home, 825 Chambers Street, Trenton, NJ 08611. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 5 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Private Inurnment of cremains will be held at St. Mary's Mausoleum.
