I am deeply saddened to learn of Joe’s passing. He was my supervisor at the Division of Pensions and Benefits. What a great amount knowledge he obtained in the information processing section. Joe diligently guided me through the systems workflow process. An excellent communicator, he led many meetings with staff and employees from other locations. Joe had a smile for everyone and would supply our section with cookies and treats. He had a talent for composing songs and enjoyed playing in his band. Joe once brought his 3ft keyboard to work to accommodate the staff’s request for music. I will sincerely miss you, Joe. I hope you have eternal peace and happinesses. Your loyal employee and I’m honored to say, friend. RIP from Linda

Joe Bear was a warm, kind and wonderful person. He will always be remembered as someone who would give you the shirt off his back. I am glad that I could consider him my friend. I knew and worked with Joe for the time he spent at the Division of Pensions.
My heart goes out to all of his loved ones, family and friends. He will be sorely missed.

My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Joe. Anyone who knew him was truly blessed as he would do anything for anyone. Every year he'd give the entire office calendars during the holidays, he NEVER missed your birthday with an email and a kind word. I was fortunate to share many years of friendship, joy and laughter with a genuinely good man who will be missed dearly. May you rest in peace Joe.

A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow (William Shakespeare). Condolences to Joe’s family and all who have had the honor to know him and call him friend. He was an extraordinary person who enriched our lives with his kindness and generosity. Joe, thank you for the cups of coffee, tea, donuts, chicken soup, snacks for the train ride, and water waiting for me when you picked me up from the station.Thank you for taking walks with me even though you had already walked an hour or so before. Thank you for listening without judgment and laughing without censor. The world should take a lesson from your playbook. I know you will watch over us and put in a good word…Liz xoxo

TO JOE'S FAMILY, I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. HE WILL BE MISSED BY MANY. I SHARE WITH YOU MY REFLECTIONS.
Joe Bear, you are gone too soon - measured by the care you showed for so many and the many who loved you, you should have been here forever - perhaps we all took that for granted. You smiling eyes, your sweet spirit touched us all. You were the big brother I never had. You were always there for me - on the porch on Hudson Street, at Petrino’s with my father and grandfather, dressing up as Santa for my little sister, the long talks with endless teenage details, the rides to wherever I needed to go before I could drive, the list from decades of friendship is endless. On the baseball field you were the best catcher and led so many teams to success, my beloved Iron Mikes and the Schroths to name a few. You brought so many of us such joy watching you play and coach. Off the field you also coached and led by example - never an unkind word, a sparkling sense of humor, a patience with others that reflected your belief that all were lovable. You were a pivotal force in my formative years, you will always be a part of me. I will live to honor your kindness by being more kind in word and deed. After not seeing you for years you showed up at my father’s funeral this summer- you made my day, I was thrilled to see you and share my love for you with my family. I am sorry that I did not spend more time with you, I long to tell you that and to hug you one more time - I love you Joe Bear. With profound sadness, Gina
